Tarpon Fishing and Catching The Elusive Silver King - Megalops Atlanticus

By Greg Smith If you have ever had the priviledge of hooking up on a big
tarpon then you know the exhilaration and thrill of testing
yourself in battle against one of the most sought after
gamefish in the world. This distinction is easy to see at first
glance as the tarpon starts a series of spectacular acrobatic
leaps in the air that will have your heart pounding, your rod
bending and your drag screaming. You better hold on! Since the tarpon's habitat is so close to the shoreline,
fishermen of all types and skill levels can catch them. They
can be caught from jetties, passes, docks, bridges,
beaches, piers and rivers. Tarpon can be caught while
using many types of tackle, rods, baits, lures and rigs either
while fishing from a boat, canoe, kayak or walking and
wading from the shoreline as the tarpon work up and down
the beaches. Live bait fishermen's bait of choice is the 'dollar crab'. A
small live blue crab about two inches across its carapace,
hooked through one end of it's shell or underneath through
a swimmer leg. Other extremely effective live baits include
pinfish, threadfin herrings and pilchards. On days when the
tarpon is being finicky in it's tablefare selection, try these for
the best results, and oh, by the way, don't forget about a live
mullet. If you can get them, use them. Flyfishermen are not
left out either. The stealth of casting the right fly can
sometimes be the trick to hooking up. But Just What is a Tarpon? Scientific classification: Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Elopiformes
Family: Megalopidae
Genus: Megalops This exceptionally fine creature is a prehistoric animal and
the only fish with an air bladder. This allows it to absorb
oxygen and live in waters with very low oxygen content. You
can see them gulp air at the water surface. Tarpon are also
called poons, tarpum, sabalo real, cuffum, silverfish or silver
king and belong to the bony fish family Elopidae. The Latin
designation is Megalops atlanticus. While only microscopic at birth, tarpon have been
documented at lengths of more than eight feet and weighing
280 pounds. Catches weighing more than 200 pounds,
while uncommon, do occur. Many fish caught are well over
100 pounds. Their growth rate is slow, taking 8 to 10 years
to reach maturity, and generally those over 100 pounds are
female. Tarpon can live 55 to 60 years. They are greenish or
bluish on top, and silver on the sides. The large mouth is
turned upwards and the lower jaw contains an elongated
bony plate. The last ray of the dorsal fin is much longer than
the others, reaching nearly to the tail. They are found primarily in shallow coastal waters and
estuaries, but they are also found in open marine waters,
around coral reefs, and in some freshwater lakes and
rivers. Their normal migratory pattern ranges from Virginia to
central Brazil in the western Atlantic, along the coast of Africa
in the eastern Atlantic, and all through the Gulf of Mexico and
Caribbean Sea. Florida is widely regarded as having many
of the best tarpon fishing locations in the world, especially
the world-renowned Boca Grande Pass in Southwest
Florida. Fishing for the tarpon can at times be an excercise of
patience and discipline. You may be surrounded by large
schools of rolling tarpon containing hundreds of fish and
they will not hit anything you throw at them. Other times, it is
a feeding frenzy. So, go fishing for tarpon every chance you
get, that next world record catch may be waiting just for you. Greg Smith is a life-long fisherman and publisher of fishing

Amortization Schedule: What Do Those Numbers Mean?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Arseniy_Olevskiy]Arseniy Olevskiy As you look at the amortization schedule that you have in front of you, it is likely that youll need to take some time to figure out what those numbers mean. After all, the schedule is an outstanding way for you to understand what you are agreeing to when you purchase that loan. Not only does it help you understand what you are paying for, it can be a way to find the best mortgage for your needs. What The Numbers Mean When you have the amortization schedule in your hand, you may have already signed on the dotted line. But, you can use tools online to help you figure out what it will be long before you even call the mortgage lender. There are some of the numbers you are likely to see on the screen when you use a product like an amortization calculator to help you figure your schedule. The loan summary provided will tell you what the amounts are. Look here for some important information. The monthly payment. One of the first and most important numbers to look at is the monthly principal and interest payment. Simply, can you afford to make this sized payment monthly?
The total payments. This will tell you how much you will pay completely when you have paid off your mortgage. This takes into account the principal as well as the interest youll pay.
Interest paid is another number youll see. Yes, it's likely to cause you to grasp your wallet a little tighter but this is the amount that borrowing money for your mortgage will cost you.
You will also see a payoff date listed. This is the final payment that youll make on your loan.
The Amortization Schedule Itself The amortization schedule is provided next on this report. Here is what youll find there. It will list the month and the year of each payment youll make.
It will list the amount of money that will go towards paying down the interest of the loan. Normally, you will pay a much larger portion in interest at the start of your loan and less at the end.
It will list the amount of money you will pay monthly to the principal or the amount that you actually borrowed. Unlike the interest, the principal starts off low and ends up higher. That means you pay more towards interest than you do towards principal.
Lastly, it will provide you with the estimated balance of the loan at each monthly level.
Lastly, when it comes to using this amortization schedule to help you to find the right mortgage lender use it to compare rates, terms as well as how much in principal/interest will be paid off monthly. See what happens when you change the numbers just slightly. Compare the rates of several companies and how they affect the payments youll be making for up to the next 30 years. The amortization schedule is a tool you have to consider when purchasing a home. Miami Italian Restaurants

By Samantha Ferguson Cioppino Restaurant, located in the Ritz Carlton on Key Biscayne, features authentic Tuscan style cuisine. Chef Carlos Sernaglia, originally from Caracas, incorporates his Italian roots of Liguria and Piedmont into his style of cooking. The outdoor terrace of this Miami Italian restaurant offers views of the ocean. If you already have plans for lunch and dinner, Cioppino Restaurant serves an exquisite brunch on Sundays. Cioppinos Menu: If you want to get a good feeling for the Tuscan style cuisine, try the Zuppa di Verdura alla Toscana, which is an appetizer soup, or the Carpaccio di Manzo. For the second course, our recommendation is the 14 oz. Veal Chop with sauted spinach and balsamic sauce or the Costata d Abbacchio, which is a baby rack of lamb with a side of rosemary potatoes and spinach. Escopazzo Restaurant, located on South Beach, is owned by Chef Pino Bodoni. Chef Bodoni can be seen intermingling with patrons at his family fun restaurant. It is always a pleasure to eat at Escopazzo when it is known that the owner/chef takes so much pride in his work, importing the majority of his products and keeping on hand over 170 cases of wines from Italy. If you ever wondered who owns a restaurant or where is the mystifying chef that magically combines an array of ingredients to make something so delectable, you will not have this problem at Escopazzo Restaurant in Miami. Escopazzos Menu: When you dine at this fine Italian restaurant in Miami, make sure to try the New Zealand Mussels, which is served with a ragout of baby artichokes, garlic, lemon essence and mint over crispy polenta sticks, or the Carpaccio di Pesce, which consists of a swordfish loin and big eye tuna. For pasta lovers, there is a pumpkin and amaretto filled ravioli, which is a unique combination that arouses the taste buds. The Quail Filled Ravioli with asparagus is our favorite pasta. We recommend the Pepper Crusted Boneless Ribeye for steak lovers as it is tenderly prepared. Anacapri Restaurant, located in Pinecrest, is a fine Italian restaurant that serves excellent food at great prices. Anacapri also doubles as an authentic Italian market where you can find your imported Italian products without having to jump on a plane. Anacapri has a second location in Coral Gables on Miracle Mile. Anacapris Menu: Anacapri keeps its menu simple. For $8.00, you can get the Mozzarella Anacapri appetizer, which is fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, basil, and sundried tomatoes. Unlike some of the more expensive Italian restaurants in Miami Beach, the Veal Pizzaiola or Piccata is moderately priced at $20. If you are in the mood for seafood, Snapper Francese, Marechiara, or Della Casa are always delicious. Trattoria Sole is a relatively inexpensive Italian restaurant in South Miami. This local spot can get busy so a reservation is recommended. If you are in the mood for outdoor dining, this restaurant it is worth the wait. Trattoria Soles Menu: Skipping straight to the dessert menu, the Coconut Flan is one reason to try Trattoria Sole. Other reasons to try this Italian restaurant include their wide selection of pastas, seafood entrees, and veal dishes. Peppys in the Gables is a cornerstone of Italian eateries in Miami. Serving Miami restaurant Patrons for over 14 years, Peppys is surely doing something right. This restaurant is not the most chic of restaurants, but it is surely one of the more savory Italian restaurants. Peppys in the Gables Menu: If you are a fan of homemade bruschetta served with fresh tomatoes and scallions, Peppys is for you. If you are not a bruchetta fan, you simply cannot turn away their plump mussels in a tarragon broth. Peppys has a large selection of entrees; it may be difficult to decide on just one. I would recommend sharing some of their dishes such as the Veal Marsala ($17.95) and Scampi ($19.50) with others at your table, in order to taste what this Miami restaurant has to offer. Grow a Healthy Lawn - You Can Do That

By Dennis Watson Do you desire a perfect lawn? Are you frustrated that your neighbor always seems to have a greener, fuller lawn than yours? If so read on, this article will help you achieve a beautiful, healthy lawn in no time. Below are tips on how to go about realizing your dream. Fertilizing You have to fertilize. Fertilizing your yard will do several things 1) it will make it greener, 2) will make it grow and 3) will cause new seed to germinate. Many people are confused about how often to fertilize, a good rule is to apply fertilizer at least four times a year. Every 60 days, first
during the spring 30 days before the growing season then late summer, late fall and then during the winter months. Lastly, don't apply to much fertilizer this will cause excess growth and lead to fungus growth which will weaken your grass. Weed Control You have to control the weeds. Controlling weeds in a new or existing lawn is essential to the health and overall aspect of the lawn. A beautiful level lawn gets most of it's good looks from the fact that it is smooth where weeds are not prominent and standing above the turf. You have probably mowed your lawn just to have dandelions popping up over the grass a day later making it look like you need to mow again. A weedless lawn holds it's good looks for several days if the grass is at a uniform growing height. Proper Mowing Remember to properly mow. Mowing is the most confusing part of lawn care, and the most often incorrectly done part of lawn care. Far too many people will set their mowers too low or "scalp" the lawn. This leads to thin and dying out grass, shallow root systems, and in the long run, NO GRASS. Thatching You have to thatch. Thatching by using a rack will remove dead grass that will smother and prevent new growth. It may seem at first you are doing more harm than not but if you don't break the thatch barrier new grass will not grow. Watering Your grass needs watering. Water should be done everyday during the hot months and rule of thumb is that it is better to water deeply one in a while then to water shallow daily. Also remember that you must water right after you lay down fertilizer. Conclusion: Follow these simple actions and you will have a lawn the whole neighborhood will envy. Good luck. Men On Dating- Timing, Turn-offs and Keepers

By Toni Coleman Dear Relationship Coach- "We met online and seemed to hit it off right from the start. After he answered my ad, we went on our first date, and it was fabulous. I believe we both felt a strong chemistry and learned a lot about each other. At the end of the evening we agreed to get together again. He called me the next day and we talked for three hours. On our second date, we spent the whole day together. After three dates (and many emails, phone calls) - we were talking on a Thursday night. We had previously discussed plans for Saturday. However, he did not mention it before we hung up. I wasn't sure of how to handle the situation, so I waited until a day later and left a voice message for him, saying hi. After four days with no word, I left him an invitation to dinner at my place. I never heard back. What happened? What am I supposed to think?" (Confused Female) Many single women write to me expressing confusion, uncertainty and frustration regarding the whole dating scene. Their stories are often (like the one above), filled with tales of broken dates, unanswered emails and/or phone calls and guys just disappearing for no apparent reason. They are looking for answers about what qualities men look for in choosing women to date and want to know what single guys really want from their relationships. Most of all, they want to know how to find and build mutually satisfying and lasting relationships. After receiving the above email, I decided to query several single guys and ask for their thoughts, reactions and suggestions to this and other questions that women want answers to. The men I spoke to are all; never married, twenties to thirties, professional, attractive and financially successful. All have very full social lives and have been actively meeting and dating women for years. Only one guy (David, a small town mayor and a professional lobbyist for a trade association) is in a relationship. However, he travels quite a bit and spends a lot of time out socially with mixed groups of singles. Their feedback for the writer of the above question contained somewhat differing views, but had a consistent thread running through it. The bottom line - he liked her and had an interest, but something changed and he decided he didn't want to continue. The men offered such comments as "he decided he's just not that interested in her" and " I wonder if they had sex, because some guys are into the chase and loose interest after that". One guy was surprised that this had occurred after they had spent a lot of time together and there had been a real interest in getting to know each other. All of the guys felt that he should have handled the situation differently. David felt the writer should have brought up the issue of getting together right away- during the phone call. He believes "this would have cleared up the ambiguity and let her know upfront where she stood." He also commented that a woman needs to "focus on what is happening in a relationship right now". He cautioned, "don't rely on past dates, go with what is happening now." Their comments gave birth to more discussion and many related questions that came up for me as they shared about their dating experiences and their beliefs. The end result? A brief snapshot of the qualities men look for in women and their thoughts on dating, timing, commitment and marriage. What are turn-ons for you? * " Personality is very important. Look for easy-going, easy to be with, low maintenance". * " Confident, fun, strong - yet kind- women" * " Takes care of herself- mentally and physically" * Makes decisions based on what is good for her, not to please me or someone else" * Is positive and can be part of a healthy give-and-take relationship" * " Attractive and has style and class" * " Is a good friend, easy-going. easy to be with" * " Is upfront and communicates feelings/wants/needs clearly and directly" * " Comfortable with herself/her body/her decisions" What are turn-offs for you? * " Doesn't take care of herself- sloppy, disorganized, etc." * " Negativity is a big turn-off- behavior, relationships, conversation" * " High-maintenance- nothing is ever enough" * " Game-player/won't express needs and feelings directly" * " Expects too much in general and doesn't give back equally" * " Is always the victim- everyone unfair and unkind to them" * "needy, insecure, clingy" * " selfish- stingy with money, time, friends" What are the qualities that make a woman a "keeper"? * " Nurturing" * "supportive" * " intelligent" * " very into me" * " appreciates what I contribute and is respectful of my feelings" * " self-reliant" * "family-oriented, likes kids" * " career or no career ok as long as she contributes to the family (great mom) How would you define "date"? * " Make plans in advance" * " There is something there besides sex" * " This is something you want to pursue- have an interest in the person" * "Friends with benefits can lead to dating or be considered a date" * "Hooking-up is not dating" How does a woman know if a guy is really interested? * " He will pursue her"
* " No matter what, he will keep in contact"
* " He communicates regularly and pursues a dating relationship" How does a guy let a woman know he is not/no longer interested? * " He will vanish" * " Email or call but not bring up getting together" * "Say I had a great time, etc.- but then not call" * "Won't return calls or call when he said he would" * "Talk with her about how he is feeling/not feeling, but this is hard for many men to do" * "Has to do with his age and level of maturity- these will determine which way he will handle it" Why/when do guys marry? * " It's about maturity and readiness" * " Age and what friends are doing plays a large role" * " Has to do with readiness for making a commitment and having kids, etc." * " Heeds to feel financially, emotionally ready" * " Needs to really click with a woman- on all levels" * "timing is a lot of it" The content of the feedback from these guys was very consistent. The overall consensus? High-maintenance, negative women are the biggest turn-offs. Confident, together women, who take care of themselves, can communicate honestly and directly and are easy to be with- got the highest marks. Timing in relationships plays a huge role. Mostly, the men emphasized that when a guy is truly interested in a woman, he will pursue her and let her know. If he offers excuses and doesn't follow through, he's just not interested- either in her or in a relationship at this time. My advice to the women out there. "Listen" closely to what he communicates non-verbally. If he says one thing, but does another, he is not telling you the whole truth. If you have just begun dating someone or have seen him for a while and his behavior towards you changes suddenly- address this with him immediately. Most of all, if something just doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Trust your instincts and let them be your guide. LASIK: Breakthrough Eye Surgery Procedure

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shannon_Brown] Shannon Brown LASIK, one of the biggest breakthroughs in eye surgery, is a surgical procedure that uses non-thermal technology to change the shape of the cornea in order to improve vision. LASIK, which is actually an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis (though few people ever know about it), meaning reshape the cornea with laser. There are other kinds of refractive surgical procedures, but LASIK is the most advanced. Although LASIK and PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) use the same type of laser, their procedures are different with the way the stroma, the middle layer of the cornea is exposed. In PRK, the top layer of the cornea is scraped to espose the stromal layer while in LASIK, only a flap is cut in the layer and then folded back. LASIK involves a two-step procedure. The first step involves the creation of a micro-thin flap of corneal tissue with the use of a disposable blade through microkeratome or with a laser, through IntraLase. Throughout the procedure, a small area of the eye is left untouched at one end to keep it attached to the eye. The second step involves the folding back of the flap and using an excimer laser to treat the corneal tissue. The excimer laser corrects myopia by flattening the cornea, hyperopia by steepening the cornea and astigmatism by making the cornea more symmetrical. In addition, LASIK also corrects presbyopia, which is a condition that often occurs with old age. Presbyopia is the inability of the eye to see things clearly or to focus sharply on nearby objects. LASIK, however, can only correct one eye for clear distance vision and the other eye for clear near vision. This is called monovision. The Excimer laser, which is the secret behind the procedure was actually originally developed by IBM for computer chips. The technology makes use of a cool beam of ultraviolet light, meaning that most of the heat generated dissipates quickly. This cooling property makes Excimer laser very ideal for eye surgery because it can vaporize corneal tissue without damaging the eye tissue through heat. And because it is originally developed with computers in mind, the laser is extremely precise, with an accuracy of 0.25 microns. That is less than one one-thousandth of a millimeter. For most procedures, one need only to remove or correct 50 microns of thickness, which is as thick as a single human hair. Aside from it being a safe procedure, LASIK also allows for rapid visual recovery and little post-operative discomfort unlike other kinds of surgery. There is also less chance for corneal haze and scarring as well as fluctuations of vision. As perfect as the procedure may seem, LASIK, like any other surgeries, can still result in complications and may involve several risks. Some temporary conditions that could occur are: 1. Dry eyes
2. Sensitivity to bright lights
3. Glare or streaks around bright lights The following conditions are also possible, but very rare: 1. Under-corrections and over-corrections that require an enhancement, which has about 10 percent risk 2. Wrinkling of the corneal flap that requires repositioning of the flap, which is really infrequent 3. Permanently blurred vision that may not be corrected by eyeglasses, contact lenses or any other enhancements; and infection of the cornea that leads to the scarring and permanently blurred vision. Knowing these conditions can happen, it is important that before a person decides to undergo the procedure, he or she consults with specialists. Doctors also provide surgical consent that patients must sign before undergoing any procedure. Shannon Brown is the editor of EasyLasik.com. This site caters to [http://www.easylasik.com] Lasik

Tea Manufacturers India

By Rahul Sharma Tea and Wine: Educating the palate When was the last time you bought wine which said French Table Wine, and poured out of a box? And how much did you pay for it? Why do connoisseurs pay more for a Chateau Neuf du Pape or a Merlot and insist on a particular year over the others? On the other hand why do the same people feel content buying tea out of a box, which says Indian or Ceylon tea? Tea, like wine, has qualities that depend on its geographical location. So just as a red wine from Chile will taste differently from a red wine from France, orthodox teas from India will be very different from orthodox teas from Ceylon or Kenya. Wines in France, too, will have regional differences with a Cotes du Rhone having a taste and bouquet unlike that of a Burgundy or Loire grape. Similarly, among the teas in India, Terai teas will taste differently from Darjeeling, Assam or Nilgiris. Then, of course there is the difference between vineyards within the region as it is with tea estates, which depend not only on the geographical location, but also on how the property is run and its quality controls. And then there are the different qualities of wine of each vineyard as there are different grades of tea of each estate. All of this may be bewildering at first. But once you master it, becoming a connoisseur of tea can be as much fun, as fascinating, if not healthier than being a wine connoisseur. Unlike wines, though, tea does not do well with age. Normally, the so-called estate-fresh specialty teas that you buy in the supermarket gets there after passing through the hands of a number of middle-men, often sitting in warehouses of dusty ports for months before it reaches your cup. Try a cup of Nuxalbari Tea India. Smell and taste the difference of drinking a cup of tea, which has reached you directly within days of being plucked. Most tea estates limit their expertise to the manufacture of one type of specialty tea. Nuxalbari Tea Estate India is probably one of the very few gardens that is proud to make all three different types of specialty Indian teas with equal finesse. In 1899, my great-grandfather, the Nawab of Jalpaiguri, traveled on elephant back across the swampy jungles of northeast India, clearing great swathes of land and planting delicate tea saplings imported from China. Family legend has it that he built his fortune led entirely by his nose. Upon espying a choice piece of virgin land, the young man would scoop a handful of earth, bury his nose in it, inhale deeply and pronounce, "good, plant," or "rubbish, move on." By the end of his life he owned 22 tea plantations from upper Assam to the Dooars. Nuxalbari, though, was one of the few tea plantations that he did not plant himself entirely. It was first established in 1884 by a British tea planter, and bought by the Nawab in 1910, who then doubled its production by planting areas thought to be unfit by the earlier owner. The Nawab of Jalpaiguri, Musharraf Hussain was one of the first Indians to make tea planting his passion. His genes survive. Why Taking Care of Mommy is So Important

By Sarah Veda Its a novel concept, isnt it; somebody taking care of you? Well, that somebody ultimately has to be you, and I know how it is, youre way too busy taking care of everybody else to give yourself any time. But, let me tell you why you have to take care of yourself, and give you some ideas as to how to do accomplish this monumental feat. Youre the Mom and if youre out of commission, everybody suffers
If you cant manage to take care of yourself, for yourself, then take care of yourself for everybody else! A well-rested, happy Mom is much more likely to have happy, thriving children. If youre tired, or you havent had an adult conversation in weeks, it will start to show. Youll be grumpy to say the least; at worst you could be downright dangerous when doing something like driving a car. A frazzled Mom is no good to anyone. How you treat yourself is how youre teaching your children to treat you
If you never let your children see that you have needs, or that you take the time to meet those needs, youre teaching them that you are, indeed, a doormat, and should be treated as such. Ok, so now you know you need to take care of yourself, physically and emotionally, but how do you make it happen? Start with your calendar Put some appointments in it that will let you have some time to yourself. You choose the activities that will soothe your soul, but whatever they are, make time for them. A few hours a week devoted to something you love other than your family, will help keep you refreshed and feeling like your old self. Ask for help You know by now that men are different, right? Well, one of the ways they are different is that they dont mind telling their partner what they need. And they expect the same from us. If you need your husband to plan to watch the baby for three hours every Saturday so that you can have some time to meditate, vegetate, shop, whatever, you need to tell him. Hes not going to come up with that idea on his own, but if you tell him what you need, hes likely to oblige. Make friends with other women in the same boat There is no substitute for a girlfriend who understands. If youre a stay at home mom, find some others to hang out with. It may mean some company for you and a play date for your child at the same time. If youre a working Mom trying to juggle everything, hook up with some other working Mothers to talk things through. It works wonders to know youre not alone. Plus, you might get some valuable ideas for handling some of the issues you face. As the Mom, youre really the heart of your family. Your well being translates into everyones well being. Take the time to enjoy the whole person that you are, not just the Mom. Sarah is a 41 year old wife and mother of two boys and one girl. She spent many years as a manager in the corporate world, and gave it up to be a stay at home mom. Go to http://www.infantresources.com now and get her incredible baby minicourse absolutely free. Why You Should Have a Garden Pond

By Anne Clarke Are you still having some trouble deciding whether or not to add a garden pond to your yard? Well, I am going to try to convince you that you should most definitely have a garden pond. Here are some of the many benefits and pros to having a garden pond: Visual Beauty. There is something about the sight of water that is absolutely mesmerizing. Add a waterfall or water fountain to your garden pond, and you will be hypnotized for days. Auditory Beauty. After a stressful day of work, there are few things more soothing than the sound of water gurgling, cascading, or even dripping. Again, a waterfall or water fountain will increase the auditory beauty, just as they will increase the visual beauty. Pets. If you add koi to your pond, you are not simply adding a piece of garden decoration, you are adding a pet. It can be very fun and quite intriguing to take care of koi. And if you do get koi for your pond, expect that you will, indeed, have to take care of them as pets. You will need to make sure that they are fed and that the aquatic environment is optimal. Gardening. Most garden ponds do not simply consist of a hole filled with water and fish. They also have many aquatic plants and plants surrounding the pond. You can really have fun with gardening and landscaping around the pond. Easy installation. You can create a basic garden pond in a day. More complicated ones, with cascading waterfalls, etc. can take much longer. But a basic garden pond is very easy to install. You can just dig a hole and line it with pond liner, or get a set pond hard shell. With a little bit of digging and some water and a few plants you have got yourself a pond! Easy to run. These days, you can get solar pond lights, solar filters, solar pumps, etc., making your pond very easy to run. And since solar power is free, you will have no running costs! Interest. There are few things more boring than a backyard that is simply a huge expanse of grass. If you want a grassy field, go to a park! In your own backyard, you have the power to create any sort of environment that you want. Why not make your landscape interesting? Getaway. Adding a garden pond to your yard is the first step to creating your own getaway. Once you beautify your yard, you are going to want to spend more and more time in it. It will become the perfect place to go when you want to escape from the rest of the world. Guests. Although you should build a garden pond for yourself, it is nice to know that your guests are sure to love it, too. Your garden pond can be the center of many outdoor barbecues and get-togethers. Add a few floating candles to your pond, and you are set to go! Anne Clarke writes numerous articles for websites on gardening, parenting, fashion, and home decor. Why Do I Eat When I'm Not Hungry?

By Kat Beechum This is a fantastic question and one that you need to ask yourself the next time you go to put something in your mouth is "Am I really hungry? Does my body need this right now?" I don't know about you, but I find that if I am bored, sitting around at home doing nothing or doing something boring at work, I automatically reach for something to eat. Now, what I eat solely depends on what I have available in the house or at work and it stands to reason that if I have things like biscuits, chips etc that that is what I am going to go for. Same goes for work. So, why do you eat even if you are not hungry? Well, you know why I do, but there are lots of reasons that people eat even if they are not hungry. Here is a brief list of some of the reasons why you might be eating even if you are not hungry: You are feeling down and eating makes you feel better about yourself for a while, ie, comfort eating.
You are bored and eating is something to do.
You are trying to punish yourself through eating.
Someone is making you eat.
These are probably some of the most common reasons. There are also many medical reasons why you might eat when you are not hungry, but as I am not a doctor, I am not even going to attempt to write about those. So, what can you do about? Do you even want to do anything about it is probably more a pertinent question. Remember, no matter what you might think, you are in control of what goes into your mouth, as the saying goes "you are what you eat" and it is never truer than in this situation. Well, I can tell you what I do now if I am bored, I get out of the house or I change what I am doing at work. I refocus on something else to take my mind of the boredom and if worst comes to worst and I do end up eating something, I make sure that in my house I only have healthy things that I can reach for, so this means no biscuits, no chips etc, especially if you are particularly susceptible to this eating habit. I always have fresh fruit, vegetables and health bars lying around so that they are quick and easy to eat. If I actually have to make myself I meal, then I won't bother, so it has to be quick and easy food that I can access. If you eat because you are feeling down about yourself you can do one of two things. You can keep feeling sorry for yourself and keep having a pity party or you can be honest with yourself and pick yourself up and make a change. Everyone goes through low points in their lives; it comes with living a human life. But the best thing about being human is that you can change your perspective at the drop of a hat. Remember when you were a child and you would get upset over something little, like your ice cream fell on the floor, you would start to cry, feeling as though your whole world had fallen apart and all it took was for your Mum to clean you up and give you another ice cream and you were happy again. And all that can happen in the space of a few minutes! So, it is a matter of perception. There is a fantastic website that can help you get into a different mind space, checkout www.tut.com and sign up for "Notes from the Universe", these are free and WILL make a difference in your life. If you are eating because somebody is telling you to, again, this is your choice. Unless they are holding a gun to your head, no one can make you eat anything you don't want to. If you are in this situation, it is not a healthy one. I know that sometimes it feels like there is no way out, but if you think about it long enough and concentrate on the end result (freedom) you will get there, you just have to have faith in yourself to do this. While there are many reasons why you might eat when you are not hungry, know that you have the power to change this. You can do, live, be whoever you want to be, you just have to make it so. Phew, this has turned into a bit of a long one, but I really feel passionately about this. We all have our vices in life, but it just takes small changes to make a difference. You can do it, I believe in you. Kat Beechum writes about things she is passionate about, which are many and varied. Kat lives in New Zealand with her man and two cats, Cooper and Phoenix, both male. Weight Loss and the Glycemic Index

By Donovan Baldwin Okay, the first couple of paragraphs might sound slightly complicated, but it gets easier after that. Bear with me. By definition, the glycemic index (sometimes abbreviated GI) is a way of ranking carbohydrates based on the short-term or immediate effect they have on your blood glucose level. When carbohydrates break down rapidly they are given a higher glycemic index than those that break down more slowly. Those with a high GI are digested more rapidly and encourage a rapid increase in blood glucose while those with a low GI are digested more slowly and release glucose into the blood stream more gradually. The glycemic index of a food is expressed as a number. This number can be arrived at a couple of different ways, but in all cases, some food, often glucose itself, is considered to be 100. In some cases, researchers may assign another food a value of 100 so that they can compare a particular diet to that particular food...perhaps a food that is a staple in the diet being examined. WHAT THE GLYCEMIC INDEX MEANS FOR YOU As we said, foods with a low GI take longer to digest and release glucose into the blood stream more slowly than foods with a high GI. Regular and sustained consumption of high GI foods has been linked to an increase in obesity and the development of metabolic disturbances. In fact, testing seems to show a link between weight loss, or at least weight management, and a diet which relies heavily on low GI foods. Studies also seem to show that there are other positive health effects as well in addition to the improvement in health that may occur as a result of healthy weight loss. Eating a low GI diet over an extended time seems to result in a lower risk of Type II Diabetes and coronary heart disease. A low GI diet may also lower risk of atherosclerosis. PROBLEMS WITH CHOOSING A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX DIET While a close approximation to the GI of a food can be given, actual GI of that food may depend on a range of factors, including how ripe it is, how long it has been stored, where it was grown, and the processing it has undergone. The GI of a food may actually fluctuate from individual to individual, and even within the same individual depending on factors such as time of day, blood glucose levels, and the person's health to name a few. Additionally, since few foods are eaten alone, it is difficult to estimate the GI of a combined dish or meal. Despite these drawbacks, the GI of a food or a meal can be estimated with some accuracy, and with proper knowledge of the GI of various foods, a diet can be constructed that will help an individual lose weight while maintaining health. There are charts, graphs, and even weight loss programs that have ranked and ordered foods and meals by their GI and can present these to the consumer as a finished package, product, or reference. Some well known weight loss programs which use the GI of foods to construct their eating plans and products are the South Beach Diet, the Atkins Diet, and the Nutrisystem Weight Loss Program. FOODS WITH A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX As might be suspected, foods with lower GI's include most common fruits and vegetables, drinks and juices made from fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, eggs, most dairy products, fish, poultry and...oh happy day...chocolate. Low GI foods are generally considered to be those with a GI of 55 or lower. GOOD CARB VS. BAD CARB OR GLYCEMIC INDEX Generally speaking, "bad" carbs tend to be foods with a high GI, while "good" carbs are foods with a low GI. As can be seen from the list above, choosing healthy carbohydrates, or low GI foods, does not have to be a chore. It is simpler for an individual to begin substituting healthy, low GI, foods and snacks for higher GI foods such as extra slices of cake, white bread, refined rice, foods sweetened with sugar, and potato chips, than to try to subsist on many of the eating plans offered by fad diets. The Perfect Vehicle

By James Stratemeyer Jesus Christ, is Gods sinless and perfect vehicle for the redemption of mankind. The Bible states unequivocally that Jesus was the only sinless man, ever, and He was tempted like man in all ways. Through that one solitary life God offered us His best gift of love, an intimate personality with which we could relate. That one solitary life sealed the blood oath with Abraham, and answered for the sins of all men, because its the one life that God Himself experienced first hand, and it is through that solitary life that we are joined with God, if we choose to be and seek Him out. Most of Gods prophets and servants have been far from sinless perfection. In fact Jonah told God No, Im not gonna do it! (loosely paraphrased), David was an adulterer and murderer, his son and heir Solomon allowed idol worship in Israel, and Rahab was a harlot. These are only the Biblical examples of how God has used His imperfect and occasionally defiant servants. Throughout our relationship with Him, He has used His imperfect vessels to get His message across and His work done. George Muller was a Prussian born philanthropist and minister who lived during the nineteenth century, he moved to England in his twenties and eventually settled in Bristol, he remained in Bristol for the rest of his life. His funeral, over fifty years later, was so massive that it closed down the town. In his troubled youth, George was not the object of such community affection, in fact he spent at least twenty-four days (that we know of) in jail for theft and other charges. His father was apparently a rather successful government official and if it werent for his fathers money and influence he probably would have done a lot more time than he did. At that time in his life George was sixteen and he was a cynical, impatient and ungrateful young man. Apparently he had many of the material advantages that the upper middle class youth of his day could possess, and a trusting father that was willing to pay for him to get an education, but that wasnt good enough for George. Much like young people who get themselves into trouble today, he wanted it all, right now! He didnt have a lot of scruples about just taking what he wanted either. He stole from his friends, his father, his school and his government. He was a liar, a con-artist, and a playboy, and by his own reckoning, a servant of Satan destined to eternal damnation which he didnt believe in so he didnt care. He spent most of his young life in trouble and thinking about ways to get over. His alcohol abuse was so bad that as his own mother lay fighting a losing battle for her life, he was found drunk and staggering around in the streets. He justified his actions and attitude by watching the moral behavior of others, and in comparing himself to others he claimed there was only a difference of degrees. He attended Halle University which had a Divinity College with nine-hundred students in it including George and he claimed that there wasnt nine among all of them worthy to teach morality or divinity to anyone. When George Muller was twenty, something happened to change the course of his life forever. All written accounts relate that it had something to do with a Saturday evening prayer meeting that George attended with one of his old party pals, another Halle University student named Beta. It was at this meeting that George met and fellowshipped with sincere Bible believing Christians for what he claimed was the first time in his life. Also I suspect that George knew that he had reached his bottom and he started to hear the Lord in his conscience calling him to repentance. George found acceptance and understanding at the meeting and he was given a kind and open invitation to return and worship anytime he felt led to do so. Within weeks of that first Saturday evening fellowship George Muller had become a new creature in Christ. He started to hold a Bible study and fellowship of his own at 6 A.M. every morning before his 8 A.M. classes and in the evenings he would pray with anyone he could find and many nights these evening prayers would last until after midnight. As it is with all of us, Jesus led him step by step, George started to understand the importance of meditating on the Scriptures and then the realization came to him that God was calling him to the missionary field. When George told his father what his plans were, his father withdrew his financial support and George was on his own. From that point on, George never relied on another human being for financial support, any need he had he took to God in faith and in secret. He began to keep an accurate account of the petitions that he set before the Lord. His secret prayer journal contained when the Reverend Muller would start to pray for something and when and how the Lord answered his prayer. No one knew of this prayer journal until after his death at ninety-two years old and it was found among his papers. By the end of his long life Reverend Muller, with guidance of the Holy Spirit had started 117 schools that educated over 120,000 children and he had raised and given away more $7,500,000.00. When he died he had less than $300.00 in total personal assets and the orphanage work, that he became so famous for, began with two children that ended up in his care when he had only two schillings in his pocket. The Reverend George Mullers life is an example of what the solitary life of Jesus can do if we have faith and choose to seek His truth, live by His will and for His glory. It doesnt matter what kind of start we had in life or what kind of tangent our lives went off on. If we seek Christ and take him at His word and understand that He is the perfect vehicle of our redemption, the Son of our God, a God of kept promises and miracles, there isnt anything we cant overcome. No obstacle is too big for God, not jail, addiction, depression nor any type of past abuse or neglect that God cant fix if you honestly seek Him and His will for your life. All this is possible for any person just by giving God what He desires from us, but will never take, that is our recognition, love and obedience, pretty much in that order. Mind Calling - Depression Bipolar ADD Is It Really A Disorder?

By Gina Bucci Who am I? Who Was I? A straight A student, entrepreneur, fine artist, seamstress, jeweler, crafter, teacher, graphic artist, successful custom muralist, advertising sales career peaking at $100K a year age 35. A lovely caring mother of two. Yet, I have a disorder. Have you been diagnosed bipolar? add? I've been prescribed everything for my highly emotional being, state of mind, people call me bubbly happy go lucky. My family say different. Everyone experiences ups and downs. I was fortunate and had 30 years of the good life in Orange County, California. At 36 I have a miracle son with some special needs, and a divorce shortly after. Sure I am going to be sad an irritable. One of the main stressors in life is the loss of a loved one, whether it be passing or divorce. There is no pill that is going to make people happy during these grieving times. It can take women 2 yrs to deal with this anxiety/depression and men even more up to 3yrs. Depending on your situation. Always remember take your vitamins, get out and ride your bike and or just walk. Releasing of positive endorphins does work. In my extensive research I have found some reference to my supposed conditions: Brilliant; Creative; Artistic; Where is the disorder? WHERE IS THE DISORDER. One of multiple psycho therapists relayed to me: Christopher Columbus discovered the new world because he was brilliant; creative and a risk taker. She stated he had ADD tendencies. Good for him! I'd call it attention to detail, maybe attention compulsive but deficit? Where? Everyone gets bored. Everyone likes entertainment. My mother used to always say to me "You can't be entertained 24 hours a day!" We learn, we do, we move on to discover. So be it where's the disorder? Yes during a crisis an anxiety medication, zanax and or others can help temporarily. Surprisingly I did take an add self test and my Dr. recently prescribed Ritalin, and I got out of my sadness, bed rest, and actually started enjoying my life again. I started cooking, cleaning, organizing. I was shocked I needed something they prescribe children to help me out of this divorce rut. Literally, I got my paints out and painted pictures, the next day I broke out my sewing machine and made some cool stuff. Kids and I went on a bike ride. Amazing. This low dose 10mg once a day for a month got me back to who I used to be. Research you do not want to abuse any medication. Always experiment with very low dosages. To see if the reaction works with you. Moral of my story, it may help you that's my hope. Check out my website www.olivegrapes.usana.com Nutritional supplements work, period. A Guide To Hot Tub Supplies

By Morgan Hamilton What method of relaxation you prefer after putting in a long work day? I think it's safe to say that a great many Americans had the couch or easy chair. The more active and motivated amongst us may head out to the gym for a little physical activity. While there are many ways to relieve that tension after a hard day at the office, one of the more soothing ways is in a nice bubbly hot tub. If you have ever spent any time in one you know exactly what I mean. There's just something about that hot water and those massaging jets pounding wailing away at your sore back muscles that brings great relief. Just talking about it can make you want to find a hot tub to jump into. Well, with owning a hot tub comes some responsibilities. For one thing you definitely have to keep it clean and sanitized. But you shouldn't put too much concern into this because it's easy enough when there are hot tub supplies that handle most of the dirty work for you. I never really gave how to much thought until a few years ago. I remember browsing for homes my wife, when we found an absolute gem. I was really taken aback as how beautiful it was. This was it, our dream house. It was a nice family home in a safe neighborhood, and it even had a fenced-in back yard. Isn't that everything you could ask for? Well, there are a few other things. Well, it got even better when I discovered that the house actually cam with a gazebo hot tub set up in the back yard. I couldn't believe. We had never counted on or even expected a jacuzzi, it wasn't even on the radar. Oh well, it surely wasn't a disappointment. Once I set my foot in that rumbling, jet infused bubble bath, I knew I was hooked. Can you believe that my wife actually asked me if I was clean before I got in? She can be nasty at times. Anyway, it wasn't difficult at all finding hot tub supplies. Apparently many homes in Oregon had hot tubs so the demand was already there. Much to my surprise I only traveled a very short distance from my home when I discovered a store that sold jacuzzis and hot tub supplies. After a short conversation with the clerk inside, I found out a little maintenance goes along way with a hot tub. Not really much of a surprise there is it? Just like anything else, you have to take care of it. Fortunately with the hot tub supplies I had purchased, I could care for an all with the things that I picked up. Probably the main thing is keeping the PH at the right level. This is done with chlorine and PH balancer. It is very similar to maintaining the swimming pool if you have ever done that. Therefore if you own a hot tub, make sure that you pay attention to that PH level. While hot tubs can be a great source of relaxation and plenty of fun, and a wonderful retreat from the daily chaos, you want to be sure to have the right hot tub supplies on hand in order to keep your jacuzzi sanitary and safe. Plant A Perennial Garden

By Mary Hanna If you want a garden that will reappear year after year plant a Perennial Garden. There are many plants that need to be grown from transplants or from seed every year but perennial gardens will come back faithfully if you treat them right. Some of the perennials include caladium, aloe, iris, yucca and tulips. A great example of a hardy perennial is the yucca which grows in the desert with no care, yet they grow, even thrive. Don't take that as if perennials will need no work or care. If you want to enjoy your perennial garden you will have to provide some care and maintenance. I don't know of any garden you can plant and forget. Even if you have chosen plants that can withstand some neglect you will still need to tend to it from time to time. This is a good tip to keep in mind when choosing your plants. Any garden, perennial or otherwise, will need some research and a plan. You need to know the requirements of each plant; how much sun, how much water, and the PH of the soil. After you have figured out their needs you will be able to find the ideal spot for your perennial garden. You must know what planting zone you live in so you can choose wisely. Pick plants that are proportional to the garden. Keep their sizes and watering needs similar. It would be disastrous to plant a perennial that needs moist soil next to one that likes a dry atmosphere. You should be able to get your questions answered at your nursery center or on the internet. There are many garden clubs on the internet so think about joining one that is all about perennials. You can use lots of color in your perennial garden but try to keep them in complimentary hues. Do lots of research on any pests that will attack your perennial garden. Here again, the internet is a font of information. Go to a search engine, type in the name of your plants and add pests. You will find all the information that you need. For instance, squirrels love to dig up bulbs and eat them. You can eliminate the problem by placing chicken wire over the planted wire so the squirrels can't get to them. Be sure to consider the growing season of each individual plant. Some flower in early spring, some in summer and some in the fall. With a good plan a gardener can have blooms all through the growing seasons. Careful planning will ensure beautiful, colorful perennial gardens through the year. The hardest year for your perennial garden will be the first year and will be the least attractive. Understand that these plants are just taking root and settling in to their new spot. In year two, the plants will start to show you what is come. At this time you may wish to move a few of the plants or add and detract some. The basic "bones" of your garden is starting to show and this is the time for rearranging to make it more pleasing to the eye. Now you arrive at year three and you will reap the rewards of your labor and care. Your friends and neighbors will marvel at your skills as a gardener. You can make some changes in the third year but not too many or you will have to wait another three years for a beautiful perennial garden. Take some time to enjoy your garden while sitting outside in your yard. Cut some of the blooms to take inside so you can enjoy them in your home. Your perennial garden was created out of love and planning. Now is the time to relax and enjoy your handiwork. Happy Gardening! Copyright Mary Hanna, All Rights Reserved. How Much is Enough Exercise When Losing Weight?

By Dr. Alan Jenks I know you are probably thinking you dont need to be reading another article on exercising to lose weight. The more I remind patients the more I am blown away at how many choose not to do it. We were recently at a Health Fair. Most of the booths were selling nutritional products to keep you healthy. We were overwhelmed at how many overweight individuals were representing these nutritional companies. They all had the latest and greatest nutrition to take, but couldn't realize that the best nutrition in the world won't help if you are still overweight. What most of them had in common was they did not exercise enough. Exercise has to be part of every single day. Find an activity you enjoy, running, biking, swimming, and do it 7 times a week. Walking just doesn't cut it anymore unless you can raise your heart rate to a fat burning level. Try this trick; take 180 minus your age and exercise for a 1/3 of your time at that heart rate level. Here is how it works. If you are 30 years of age, then your heart rate needs to be 180-30, which is 150 beats per minute. Spend 45-60 a day exercising. Warm up to150 beats per minute for the first third of your exercise. Exercise at 150 beats per minute for the second third of exercise, and cool down to a resting rate for the second third of exercise. Take the next couple of weeks to get into the habit of finding time each day that you can exercise. Calculate your heart rate (180-age). Get use to taking your heart rate at the wrist. It will take a good week to get use to keeping your body in that optimal heart rate for 15 minutes, so take your time and enjoy in an activity that you like. Studies show that 90% of people, who exercise consistently, exercise in the morning. As well as helping maintain the regularity of your exercise program, a morning routine has the following additional benefits: 1. It keeps your metabolism elevated for hours. 2. You will find energy for the rest of the day. 3. If you exercise in the morning you will find you eat less. 4. Exercising in the morning also helps to balance the endocrine systems, which helps with happy hormones 5. You will eventually find it is easier to wake up. 6. You will be more mentally alert. 8. A morning routine helps keep you exercising even when you are busy The real question you should ask yourself is just how badly you want to lose weight. If your Why is bad enough then exercise will be part of your life and just commit yourself to exercising in the morning.
